TRAIL ACCESS INFORMATION

Trail Explorer is unique because it provides objective Trail Access Information describing the conditions on the trail. Have you ever finished a three hour hike in one hour? Have you struggled on a "moderate" or "intermediate" trail? Have you ever encountered barriers on an "easy" trail? If so, you already know the benefits of Trail Access Information (TAI).

TAI summarizes the information you need to know about a trail - grade, cross-slope, surface, width, length, obstructions and features. TAI allows you to choose a trail that suits your abilities and interests based on accurate and reliable information. The concept is similar to the nutrition facts label found on food packaging. Trail Access Information is generated by using the Universal Trail Assessment Process (UTAP).

The benefits of TAI include:

na Decisions based on objective information rather than subjective opinions
na Greater enjoyment and satisfaction because trail conditions match your interests
na Enhanced safety through knowledge of and preparation for trail conditions appropriate to your abilities and experience

All users benefit from TAI, but the benefits are particularly important for those who may desire specific trail conditions, such as:

na People with disabilities
na Families with young children
na Older adults
na Inexperienced trail users
